As Chair of the International Paleolimnology Association (IPA), I am writing to invite you to submit nominations for the awards that IPA will present at the upcoming  3rd Paleolimnology and Limnogeology International Symposium in Aix les Bains, France between 6th-10th October 2025. More information about the conference can be found here on the website: https://ialipa-2025.sciencesconf.org
As in past IAL IPA meetings, we are happy to present the IPA awards. Please consider nominating your colleagues for some of our different categories. Note the IPA deadline for nominations is March 31st 2025.Â

IPA Rick Battarbee Lifetime Achievement Award
The major award of the International Paleolimnology Association (IPA) is the Rick Battarbee Lifetime Achievement Award, which is a medal presented by IPA to the winner(s) at the international symposia.
Previous winners of the IPA Lifetime Achievement Award were Herb Wright, Dan Livingstone, Frank Oldfield and Walt Dean (at IPS 2008 in Guadalajara); Françoise Gasse, Peter Appleby, John Birks, and Ingemar Renberg (at IPS 2012 in Glasgow); Rick Battarbee, Hilary Birks, Roger Flower, Piero Guilizzoni, and Alayne Street-Perrott (at IPS 2015 in Lanzhou); Svante Björck, Daniel R. Engstrom, Sherilyn C. Fritz, Krystyna Szeroczyńska, and Sumin Wang (at IPS-IAL 2018 in Stockholm); and Mark Brenner, Steve Juggins, Anson Mackay, Nora I. Maidana and John Smol (at IAL-IPA 2022 in Bariloche).

IPA Early Career Researcher Award
The IPA Early Career Researcher Award will be presented to the successful nominee(s) who defended their PhD thesis within the past 10 years.
Previous winners were Jean-Philippe Jenny and Jennifer Korosi (at IPS-IAL 2018 in Stockholm); and Simon Belle and Katherine Hargan (at IAL-IPS 2022 in Bariloche).
Nominators are asked to submit a one-page letter of nomination and a full CV of the nominee to Fernanda Charqueño Celis (IPA Early Career representative) at ialipaecr@gmail.com

IPA Outstanding Service Awards
The IPA Outstanding Service Awards are designed to honour those who have enabled the advancement of paleolimnology through their dedicated, effective and sustained support for our research community. This award may also recognise contributions towards promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within the field of paleolimnology.
Previous winners were John Glew, Judith Terpos, Tom Whitmore, Bill Last, Tamara Welschot, and Eric Grimm (at IPS 2012 in Glasgow); Stephen Juggins and Richard Niederreiter (at IPS 2015 in Lanzhou); Oliver Heiri and Steffen Mischke (at IPS-IAL 2018 in Stockholm); and Melanie Riedinger-Whitmore and Barbara Wohlfarth (at IAL-IPS 2022 in Bariloche).
